SOUTH FLORIDA  S.P.C.A. RESCUES 400 ANIMALS FROM SLAUGHTERHOUSE

It was a muddy, rainy day in October. We received a tip that someone was slaughtering horses on a ranch in Southwest Miami-Dade county. After investigation, a multi-departmental task force including the South Florida SPCA, Miami Animal Services, Florida Dept of Agriculture, USDA and other agencies took action to rescue over 400 animals including horses, donkeys, pigs, cattle, sheep, goats and fowl. It took 4 days to remove all the animals from the ranch. The owner has been charged with assorted violations.
The horses, donkeys, sheep, and goats were transported to the South Florida S.P.C.A. Rescue Ranch. The balance of the animals were placed in ranches in Florida and Georgia.  At this time we have over 40 horses available for adoption including the 20 new horses from the slaughterhouse. Photos of the new horses will be posted shortly.  We welcome your support so we can continue rescuing defenseless animals that are put in harms way.

SOUTH FLORIDA S.P.C.A. STATUS
November 5, 2008

How can this happen? These horrible things, how can anyone do this to a horse? We have no answers to your questions about abuse, neglect and abandonment. We keep focused toward our our goal to save those who are in need and not let the questions of 'why' slow us down in our efforts.  Our recent rescue of over 400 animals from a filthy slaughterhouse brings the number of horses to over 40 at our Rescue Ranch facility.   We invite you to participate and become a member of the South Florida SPCA. Your support is critical to our survival.

The Day At The Races annual fundraiser in October was a big success and brought in over $6000.00! Every little bit helps, but with feed bills over $6000.00 each month, we are having a hard time making ends meet.  We invite you to join us in our efforts. If you have the passion and want to make a serious commitment to saving and protecting horses and other animals, we invite you to become a board member for the South Florida SPCA. We are taking applications. Please email  . Be sure and tell us a bit about yourself.

We have so many beautiful horses available for adoption. Henry is still available (pictured on left). Henry was abandoned and came to us as a stallion. He was quite a wild man! After a few months of hands on, Henry decided that he really liked his human friends and became one of the favorites with our staff and volunteers. Last year Henry developed a very painful and life threatening  Colic. We dipped into and almost exhausted our funds to get Henry his lifesaving operation.  Henry would love to go home with you!

Starving Paso Fino Rescued From Rock Quarry

On July 30, 2008 the South Florida S.P.C.A. was called out to rescue a starving Paso Fino that had been abandoned in a rock quarry in North Dade. The gelding was severely undernourished and had sore feet from walking on rocks for an extended time. Even though we have over 50 horses at our facility, we are continuing to rescue those animals in need.
